Been a Long Time Gone

Istanbul was Constantinople, but I don't think it was really like New Amsterdam. One issue I have with it is the phrase:

Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Now it's Turkish delight on a moonlit night

Can't we use "ben" instead of "been"? It makes a lot more sense.
